Our Building Techniques

Our Building Techniques

Below are several methods our construction team uses to ensure we are building homes that benefit the environment and our community while serving the needs of our families. We make every effort to build affordable homes for our partner families.

Green Building Techniques

  • We recycle plastic, aluminum, rigid foam insulation, drywall, copper, cardboard, wood and other scrap metal on all of our build sites.
  • Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity is 1 of 2 builders in the state of Wisconsin that builds EPA Indoor airPLUS certified homes.
  • We install sub-slab ventilation systems to control the moisture in the basement. This reduces the electricity load because there is no need to run a dehumidifier.
  • We use recycled gravel whenever possible.

Water Conservation

  • Structured plumbing will save an average of $151 and 7,300 gallons of water each year
  • Dual Flush Toilets can save an average family of four up to 6,000 gallons of water each year
  • Low Flow showerheads provide a 20% reduction in water consumption.

Lighting

  • Compact Florescent Light Bulbs in our houses will save $120 on average and 1,817 lbs. of carbon emissions each year.
