Home Ownership

Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity builds brand new homes in the Green Bay area and sells them to qualified families at no profit. The Habitat program provides benefits to our partner families and the Green Bay community. Families benefit from decent, affordable housing while the community benefits from the redevelopment of neighborhoods and an increase in tax revenue.

The Habitat program does not give houses away. Families must spend “sweat equity” hours helping to build their home, pay a $600 down payment and make monthly mortgage payments. Homes are made affordable due to the volunteer labor used to build the home and the 0% interest mortgage provided by Habitat.

A Message From Our Family Services Coordinator, Larry Boehm:

The Habitat program is a hand up, not a hand out. To qualify for the Habitat program families must have a steady source of income, demonstrate financial responsibility, and understand what it takes to work for and own their own home. Families that qualify for our program find that buying a home through a conventional lender is just out of reach. However, with the benefits that the Habitat program can provide - the dream of home ownership can become a reality.
